This Africa Day, we celebrate the farming communities in Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo that are building resilience through regenerative coffee farming, clean water access, and long- term sustainability initiatives.
Across Murambi and Minova, thousands of seedlings are being prepared, water systems restored, and communities supported through projects designed not only for today\u2019s harvest, but for generations to come.<\/p>

There is something that stays with you after standing on a hillside in East Africa and watching someone press a seedling into the ground.
The care in every movement. The patience. The quiet certainty that what is planted today will matter years from now.<\/p>

Across Minova in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Murambi in Rwanda, farming families continue generations of coffee cultivation rooted in deep knowledge of the land and its rhythms.<\/p>

Planting for the Future<\/strong><\/p>

This year, 20,000 shade trees are being prepared and distributed across Murambi and Minova. Over time, these trees will help protect coffee plants from harsh heat, strengthen the soil during heavy rains, and restore biodiversity across the landscape.<\/p>

Alongside them, 100,000 coffee seedlings are being cultivated to renew aging farms and strengthen the future of coffee-growing families.<\/p>

In Minova, nursery beds are already filled with young seedlings carefully tended every morning. Each one represents a long-term investment in the resilience of both the land and the community.<\/p>

The farming systems growing around these nurseries are designed with the same long-term thinking.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

Coffee cherry pulp is transformed into organic compost and returned to the soil, helping restore nutrients naturally. Farmer groups are also receiving goats whose manure contributes to regenerative farming cycles and reduces dependence on costly synthetic fertilizers.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

Water as the Foundation of Community<\/strong><\/p>

In Murambi, the restoration of a filtered water pump system has helped provide clean water access to more than 500 families in the surrounding community.<\/p>

For many families, reliable access to clean water changes daily life in fundamental ways reducing long walks for water collection while improving health and community resilience.<\/p>
