Already in the earliest stages of Rutasoka, it was clear that we had made it possible for a clinic with a focus on maternity care in Uvira, Congo. Together with our customers and partners, we had begun the path to making our dream possible. But as the saying goes \u2013 \u201ddreams rarely come alone\u201d, and soon we were faced with new and exciting challenges.<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

After four years, hundreds of phone calls and countless hours of evaluation, we were finally able to find a new opportunity to support the community where our coffee comes from. New goals were set and soon another project would be born. It was time to upgrade Congo's existing healthcare facilities. We wanted to increase the standard of both buildings and staff, but also ensure that the range of medicines was expanded. We enlisted the help of the site manager at Rutasoka Clinic, as we want to act in a familiar and circular manner in our dreams and challenges. We soon found our first challenge, a small healthcare facility in Kiyaya. All said and done, Baleke was already on site in May 2021 to visit the healthcare facility and its staff. There were major shortcomings in the environment, toilets and showers were substandard, electricity only worked at certain times of the day and many medicines and relevant equipment were missing. The healthcare facility was, in short, about to fall apart.<\/p>

We refused to give up hope.<\/strong><\/p>

We knew we needed to start somewhere and preferably as quickly as possible. But we refused to give up hope. Therefore, the primary focus had to be placed on the most essential parts, that is, the building. If we could only ensure that the building could handle the patient flow and became a clean and safe place, we could have the remaining shortcomings taken care of over time. And it happened quickly. The work was started quickly and after just a few days we started to see results. The healthcare facility began to look okay to the world with new windows, a more stable foundation and solar panels on the roof. The result became a fact and we were weak in the knees when the small village showed us its joy and commitment. A confirmation that what we are doing is right, together.\u00a0<\/p>

It is, with the small care facility in Kiyaya, in our hearts that we feel so strongly about what we do. It is with the happiness in the eyes of the families when we make small progress day by day that we can endure all the hours of commitment to achieving our dreams. Dreams of a better society, of a safer upbringing and a more prosperous planet. That is why we have decided to never stop. We believe that our obstacles are there to be climbed and despite all the hours and setbacks, we will rise again. That is why it is extra important that we aim for new challenges together. Because nothing would have been possible without you, our coffee drinkers. That is why we want to end the post with a big thank you for supporting us and our commitment.
