Why Minova?
Every coffee-growing region has its own character.
Some are known for dramatic landscapes. Others for long-standing traditions or distinctive flavor profiles. What makes Minova memorable is the way coffee and community are so closely connected.
Situated along the shores of Lake Kivu in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, Minova is home to generations of coffee-growing families whose knowledge of the land has been shaped over decades. Here, coffee is part of daily life, woven into the rhythm of communities and the stories of the people who cultivate it.
As Rutasoka continues to deepen its relationships at origin, Minova has become an important part of that journey.
Turning Conversations into Action
Over recent months, conversations with farmers, local partners, and community members have highlighted the shared ambition to strengthen coffee production through knowledge, collaboration, and investment in people.
Those conversations led to the creation of Seeds of Resilience, a new initiative that brings together nursery development, farmer training, and ongoing field support.
Building the Foundations for Growth
At the center of the project is the establishment of coffee nurseries and shade that will provide farmers with access to high-quality seedlings while creating spaces for learning and knowledge sharing. Alongside nursery development, farmers will participate in training activities focused on cultivation practices, farm management, soil health, and approaches that support long-term productivity.
The initiative also creates opportunities for broader community participation. Young people will be involved in different aspects of nursery operations and field activities, as they continue to contribute their knowledge, experience, and leadership throughout the project.
What this looks like in numbers:
- 50,000 coffee seedlings
- 10,000 shade trees
- 2 nursery sites
- 7 fixed term contract until the project is doneĀ
- 20 casual workers for 3 months
- 50+ seasonal and indirect jobs
A Partnership for the Long Term
What excites us most about this work is the opportunity to build something together.
Coffee has always been about people. Behind every harvest are families, communities, and years of dedication that often remain unseen by those enjoying the final cup. Projects like this create opportunities to strengthen those connections while supporting the individuals whose work makes coffee possible.
Minova's story is still being written, and we are honored to become a small part of it.
In the months ahead, we look forward to sharing more from the region, introducing some of the people involved, and offering a closer look at the work taking place on the ground.
For now, we are simply pleased to say:
Welcome to Minova.
