Our Founder
A visionary founder
Rebu Burubwa grew up surrounded by the lush landscapes of South Kivu Province, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
When political unrest shook the region, Rebu and his family were forced to leave their home and seek refuge in Sweden in 2007. There they found safety, but his connection to his homeland remained as strong as ever.
The drive to give back
The drive to give back to the community that shaped him has always been central to Rebu. Over the years, he has carried with him values of community and responsibility for his fellow human beings. When he saw the challenges his hometown of Uvira faced – poverty, lack of opportunity and a fading faith in the future – he felt he could not stand by. He needed to act.
First project: Women's clinic in Uvira
Maternal mortality is one of the biggest health challenges in Congo. The lack of access to care during pregnancy and childbirth has long resulted in high maternal and infant mortality rates in the region.
In May 2017, Rebu Burubwa took the initiative to address this problem by establishing the Women’s Clinic in Uvira. The goal of the clinic was not only to improve maternity care but to create long-term change – to give women the security to give birth safely and with dignity.
Hope and faith in the future
The impact of the Women's Clinic extends far beyond healthcare. It has become a symbol of hope and faith in the future in the region. By providing jobs and training local caregivers, the clinic strengthens the local economy and lays the foundation for sustainable development where more people can contribute to social change.
This project was the starting point for Rutasoka's journey – a journey where sustainability and meaningful change are at the center to support the people who need it most.
