The journey from cultivation to roasting – A passion for quality
Butembo’s beans come from the lush areas along the iconic Lake Edward and the majestic mountain slopes of Virunga National Park. At high altitude, the coffee berries are slowly ripened to perfection before being carefully harvested by hand, ensuring that each bean’s flavor potential is preserved.
Slow Roast – An artistic creation
During roasting in Sweden, each bean is treated with dedication and care. We’ve refined our Slow Roast method to slowly roast the coffee, elevating the flavor of each cup to unprecedented heights. The dark roast gives the coffee its deep and rich character, perfectly balanced with flavors of dark berries and enchanting creamy chocolate.
Butembo – Sustainability and justice in every cup
The name Butembo has a special meaning – taken from an area where coffee is grown and where v has become a leading social actor. Every cup you enjoy also means a step towards sustainability and justice for coffee producers in the Congo.

The coffee producers in eastern Congo have long suffered from war and conflict, which has led to neglected plantations and risk-taking, to smuggle the raw coffee to neighboring Uganda, on the other side of Lake Edwad. But now, with increased stability in the area, producers have finally gotten their revenge. Through passionate commitment and hard work, coffee from the Congo has once again become a recognized feature on the international market. Since our start in 2017, we have proudly been part of this development. Together with you, as a customer, we can continue to build up the standard of living of the coffee producers and contribute to their life’s work.
